Is YouGov legit? What we checked, and what it pays

YouGov is a real, operating consumer survey panel. We last checked its published terms and payout rules on 2026-08-09, against the provider's own documentation. What is worth knowing before you join is not whether it exists, but what it actually pays: $2.00 – $4.50 on the published figures, with a 5,000 points (~$50 / £50) cash-out floor.

"Legit" gets used for two different questions. The first is whether the company is real and pays people at all. The second is whether joining is worth your time. This page answers both, and they have different answers.

We do not operate accounts on the panels we write about, so nothing here is a personal earnings claim. Everything below is taken from YouGov's published documentation and terms, with the date we last opened them shown at the bottom of the page.

The complaints that are fair

  • 5,000-point threshold takes most members six months to a year to reach.
  • Payout processing runs to weeks, not days.
  • Per-minute rate is low even by consumer-panel standards.
  • Prize-draw entries are dressed up as rewards and are worth close to nothing.

How YouGov compares on the things people complain about

Cash-out floor and payout speed are the two figures behind most "scam" accusations in this category. A panel that makes you reach $50 before paying feels like a scam long before it is one.

PanelCash-out floorReported payout speed
YouGov5,000 points (~$50 / £50)2 – 4 weeks after request
Survey Junkie$5.00 (500 points)PayPal usually under 24h

Worth knowing

Eligibility beyond the countries named above is decided at signup, so treat the list as the floor rather than the limit.

YouGov FAQ

How long does it take to reach the YouGov payout threshold?
Most members need six months to a year of regular participation to reach 5,000 points, which is worth roughly $50.
Do YouGov points expire?
In some markets points expire on accounts that go inactive. Logging in at least once a quarter avoids it.
